How this 3D skeleton was made
Most bone shapes (158 of 196) were built from figures of this species' own fossils or from published 3D data made from its specimens; the rest are 38 borrowed from close relatives.

- 3D Skeleton: Sellers & Pond (2015) Kinect controlled dinosaur simulations, figshare doi:10.6084/m9.figshare.2008977 (CC BY 4.0). According to Sellers et al. (2017) PeerJ 5:e3420, it is based on a laser scan of specimen BHI 3033 (nicknamed "Stan"). The bones beneath the tail (chevrons / haemal arches) borrow their shapes from Gorgosaurus (part names starting with gorgo_). Pose (2026-09-30): Referencing the alternating foot placement in Pacheco et al. 2019 PeerJ Fig. 1H (Gnathovorax), we estimated a pose with the left foot forward and the right foot supporting from behind. The stride length, forward torso pitch of 6 degrees, downward head turned rightward, and lateral tail swing are estimates for exhibition. They are not a reconstruction based on measured joint range of motion or walking speed for this species. Fine joint angle adjustments to maintain ground contact and skeletal articulation are also estimated. Rather than a walking diagram of this exact species, the bone orientations were adapted from a diagram of a relative sharing the same gait.
