2-2“The Beguiling of Gylfi” Chapter 21

Thor, the God of Strength

What treasures help Thor use his strength?

Thor is stronger than any other god or human. He rules a land called Thrudvangar, where he has a hall named Bilskirnir. It has 540 rooms. *Gylfaginning* describes it as the largest building known to humankind.

When Thor travels, he rides in a chariot drawn by 2 goats. He also has precious treasures. Among them is his hammer, Mjolnir, which the giants fear. It has crushed the heads of many of their fathers and relatives.

His other treasures are a belt of strength and iron gloves. When he fastens the belt around himself, his divine strength increases. He needs the iron gloves to grip Mjolnir's handle. *Gylfaginning* says that even the most learned person could not list all the great deeds Thor has done.
