The Shining God and the Peacemaker
How does Forseti settle disputes?
Everyone praises Baldr as the finest of the gods. His face is beautiful, and he shines so brightly that light seems to come from his body. A very white plant is compared to Baldr's eyelashes. Its whiteness, we are told, gives some idea of the beauty of his hair and body.
Baldr is the wisest of the gods. His words are beautiful, and no one surpasses his kindness. Yet his judgments never take effect. His home is Breidablik, in heaven. *Gylfaginning* explains that nothing unclean may be there.
Forseti is Baldr's son. His heavenly hall, Glitnir, has golden pillars and a silver roof. There, Forseti settles disputes. Everyone who comes to him with a quarrel leaves reconciled. It is said to be the best place of judgment for gods and humans.
