Odin Watches Over the World
How does Odin learn what happens in the world?
Odin is the father of all the gods. That is why he is also called Allfather. But he has many other names. In *Grimnismal*, he reveals them one after another. Some come from things that happened on his travels.
The 2 ravens, Huginn and Munin, set out at dawn. They fly all over the world and return around breakfast time. Perching on Odin's shoulders, they tell him in his ears what they have seen and heard. This is how Odin learns of the many things happening in the world.
Yet he is never quite sure that the ravens will return. He fears that Huginn may not come back, and worries even more about Munin. He gives the food on his table to the wolves Geri and Freki. Odin himself needs no food and lives on wine alone.
