Gylfi on the Open Plain
What does Gylfi tell others after the hall disappears?
When the tale in *The Deluding of Gylfi* ends, Gylfi hears a great noise on every side. He turns and looks around. Suddenly, he finds himself standing on a level plain. Wherever he looks, there is no hall or castle to be seen.
Gylfi leaves the plain and returns to his own country. There, he tells people what he has seen and heard. His listeners tell others in turn, and so the story of his experiences passes from person to person.
Meanwhile, the Aesir gather to talk. They look back over the stories they told Gylfi, then give the names from those stories to the people and places around them. They do this so that people in the distant future will believe that those who share the gods' names are the very same beings.
