The Roosters and the Hound Give Warning
Where do the roosters' cries and Garm's barking ring out?
In "The Seeress's Prophecy," an old giantess sits in the Ironwood in the east. She raises Fenrir's children. From among them will come a monster that snatches away the moon. It feeds on the lives of people doomed to die.
The gods' dwelling is stained red with blood. Summer sunlight turns black, and storms rage. Eggther sits on a hill, happily playing his harp. He is the giantess's watchman.
In the tree above him, the red rooster Fjalar crows. Among the gods, Gullinkambi crows, waking the warriors in Odin's hall. Beneath the earth, in Hel's hall, a sooty red rooster calls out too.
Before the cave, Garm barks fiercely. The seeress foretells that the tether will break and the wolf will run free. She sees far ahead to the fate of the gods.
