1-16“The Sayings of Grimnir” Stanza 4–7, 11–17
The Gods' Halls in Heaven
What are the gods' homes like?
The Sayings of Grimnir introduces the homes of the gods one after another. Thor lives in Thrudheim. The gods gave Frey Alfheim as a gift when his first tooth appeared.
Baldr's home is Breidablik. Heimdall drinks mead in his hall at Himinbjorg. Forseti settles disputes in Glitnir, a hall with golden pillars and a silver roof.
In Gylfaginning, Valaskjalf is Odin's hall. Built by the gods, this hall also has a roof of pure silver.
Above this heaven is another heaven, and above that is a 3rd. The storyteller believes that Gimle is there. The List of Names counts 9 heavens.
