The Giants' Armies Advance
How do the giants reach the battlefield?
In *The Seeress's Prophecy*, Hrym advances from the east with his shield raised. The great serpent writhes in fury, churning the sea into waves.
In *The Deluding of Gylfi*, Naglfar is a ship made from the nails of the dead. The giant Hrym steers it. *The Seeress's Prophecy* also tells of a ship sailing over the sea, with Loki at the helm.
Surt comes from the south. In *The Deluding of Gylfi*, he rides at the head of an army of flame. The army crosses Bifrost, and the bridge breaks beneath them.
The battle will take place on the plain of Vigrid. *The Lay of Vafthrudnir* also names this as the battlefield where Surt will face the gods. It stretches 100 leagues in every direction. A league is a measure of distance.
