The Bride Who Won Back the Hammer

How did the bride get the hammer back?

Thor and Loki, disguised as his maid, travel to the land of the giants. Thinking Freyja has come to be his bride, Thrym orders the giants to prepare a feast. Drinks are brought out that evening. Dressed as the bride, Thor eats 1 ox and 8 salmon. He also drinks 3 barrels of mead.

Thrym is astonished by the bride's appetite. Loki explains that she was so eager to come that she ate nothing for 8 nights. Thrym peeks beneath the veil to kiss her, but leaps back in fright at the bride's fearsome eyes.

Once again, Loki has an answer: she was so eager to see him that she could not sleep for 8 nights. At last, Thrym orders the hammer to be brought in to bless the bride. He tells them to place Mjolnir in the bride's lap.

Thor laughs to himself when he sees his hammer. First he kills Thrym, then strikes down the giant's family. The woman who asked the bride for rings also receives a blow from the hammer. And so Thor wins his hammer back.
