What happened in the first war?

In The Seeress's Prophecy, the seeress remembers the first war in the world. The gods pierced Gullveig with spears and burned her inside a hall. Yet 3 times she was burned, and 3 times she was born again. She still lives.

As Gullveig visited people's homes, she was called Heid wherever she went. She was a seeress who could see the future and work magic. She also cast spells on people's minds. Wicked women delighted in her.

The gods gathered in council. They discussed whether the Aesir should pay tribute and whether all the gods should be worshipped equally. Next, Odin hurled a spear into the enemy army. During the battle, the wall surrounding the gods was breached. The Vanir advanced across the battlefield.
