Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge
Where does the rainbow bridge lead?
In Gylfaginning, the gods build a bridge from earth to heaven. Its name is Bifrost. People call it the rainbow, and it has 3 colors. Built with skill and wisdom surpassing other works, it is very strong.
The Sayings of Grimnir calls Bifrost the finest of all bridges. It also tells how Thor travels to the World Tree each day to hold court. He wades across rivers on foot. In this passage, the gods' bridge is ablaze and the sacred river waters are boiling.
Gylfaginning also tells what will happen to the bridge. When the sons of Muspell ride across it, even this strong bridge will break. Their horses will swim across great rivers, carrying the sons of Muspell onward.
